A powerful new team means that CARP members can expect stronger representation than ever.

Canadian media innovator and new CARP Executive Director Moses Znaimer announced that CARP members can expect stronger representation than ever as he unveiled a powerful new team charged with raising the awareness of CARP, and defining A New Vision of Aging for Zoomers. Znaimer recently coined the term “Zoomer” to denote a new view of the population traditionally known as “50+”.

Led by Lillian and Murray Morgenthau since 1984, CARP is a national organization mandated to provide its members with powerful ADVOCACY, targeted BENEFITS and COMMUNITY support for improved quality of life. With approximately 350,000 members, under Znaimer’s leadership a major membership drive is being planned to begin A March towards A Million.

CARP is the highly respected voice advocating at all levels of government for the rights and dignity of the over 14 million Canadian Zoomers. Adding muscle to the cause, Znaimer announced the appointment of Toronto tax lawyer, prominent activist and frequent media commentator, Susan Eng, as CARP Vice President Advocacy.

Many will recall Eng as the former Chair of the Metropolitan Toronto Police Services Board from 1991 to 1995. In this role, Eng tackled sensitive issues of public accountability, police use of force, anti-racism, fiscal responsibility, and initiated groundbreaking policy and organizational changes.

More recently, as co-chair of the Ontario Coalition of Chinese Head Tax Payers and Families and along with other redress groups across the country, Eng successfully campaigned for a Parliamentary apology and redress for 62 years of legislated racism under the Head Tax and Exclusion Acts.

A longtime and prominent contributor to the community, Eng was previously with the Urban Alliance on Race Relations, the YWCA of Greater Toronto and on the founding national executive of the Chinese Canadian National Council. She currently serves on the Governing Council of the University of Toronto, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, and is a director and former Chair of the Yee Hong Community Wellness Centre for Geriatric Care.

With a successful track record in securing public policy change, a remarkable ability to build consensus among diverse parties and profound experience in ensuring that public institutions fully address the real needs of a modern diverse society, Eng is poised to give CARP a stronger voice and a broader reach.

Eng’s initiatives will be outlined in CARP Magazine in the CARP Action pages, and in CARP Action Online, an e-newsletter distributed twice monthly to 30,000 subscribers.
