Pension bill and political loyalty will not change: Dhalla

“The story reported in the paper was completely false,” Dhalla said Tuesday in an interview with The Guardian. “It’s a sign that the rumour mill is in overdrive.”

Dhalla noted she has been a proud Liberal since she was 12-years-old and has not spoken to the Tories about crossing the House of Commons floor to join the Conservatives.

As for the cold reception her bill has received from Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff and the party, Dhalla finds solace in bringing forward what she termed a “grassroots” proposal from her constituency.

She is hopeful the ensuing debate can lead to some solutions for seniors experiencing poverty.

“I hope that the conversation, the debate, the dialogue that it created is going to bring forward and highlight the importance of having immediate action and solutions,” she said.
