Earlier this year, Bruce Draper, Chair of the CARP Windsor Essex Chapter advised the Board that for health reasons he was stepping down.
Bruce has been an outstanding Chapter member for a number of years including a previous stint as Chair. Bruce promises that with Goldie’s continuing support he will continue to participate and support the Chapter and CARP programs.
Already he has agreed to head the Nominating Committee identifying candidates for the Chapter Board to be elected at the Chapter AGM in the first trimester of 2011. Bruce will as Past Chair also continue to be a member of the Chapter Board. On behalf of the Chapter Board and Members,
I would like to thank Bruce for his outstanding enthusiasm and support for CARP and the Windsor Essex Chapter. Please come out to our November 24 General Meeting so that you can recognize Bruce’s contributions to the Chapter.
I am pleased to be your Chair until the 2011 elections. For your information, while members of the Chapter Board are elected by the members present at a general meeting of the Chapter. The elected Board members then elect from amongst themselves the Board Executive of Chair, Vice, and Treasurer, plus Chairs for our standing committees of Membership, Finance, Communications, and Advocacy. There can be twelve members of the Board. Presently we are only nine so a number of vacancies need to be filled. Your Chapter Board has begun to consider our future priorities and programs. We solicit your inputs on these. At this point we have agreed on three broad directions for the next year: increasing member participation, increasing chapter revenues (so as to improve our programs and communications with chapter members), and increasing chapter membership.
You will notice that our November meeting will have ‘entertainment’ by a well-known local personality, June Cox (who is also a member of our Chapter Board). We decided at our last Board meeting that our meetings need to be more ‘fun’ and not all about our challenges of aging. Mind you, we will continue to keep you informed about health and financial issues, particularly as our National Office advocates on our behalf in those respects.
As your Chapter representative, I will be attending the CARP AGM in Toronto as well as the “ZOOMER LIFESTYLE” show from October 28 to 30. In that regard, I will be looking forward to reporting back to you on my experiences and findings at the November 24 general meeting.
I am honoured to be once again your Chapter Chair. Over the next months, I will endeavour to serve your interests and advocate on your behalf to local representatives. Your inputs and comments are always welcomed and encouraged. See you on November 24.
