Chairman’s Message – March 2011

CARP – A NEW VISION OF AGING FOR CANADA WINDSOR ESSEX CHAPTER CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE – MARCH 2011

I begin by thanking Bruce Draper and Sundaresh Yajaman for their service on the Chapter Board. Bruce in his six years on the Board has served as Chairman for several years and will for the next year sit ‘ex officio’ as Immediate Past Chair. Sundaresh has decided for health reasons to step down from the Board after five years service during which he served as our Membership Committee Chair. Both have been diligent and dedicated to CARP and the Chapter.

Since my previous report at the Chapter General Meeting on November 24, 2010, your Board has remained active. We meet monthly, planning and undertaking events and activities promoting CARP objectives. We have given considerable energy to organizing our Chapter AGM.

The Windsor Essex Chapter Annual General Meeting will be on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, beginning at 1230pm, at the Centres for Seniors Windsor, 635 McEwan Ave. The AGM will be informative and enjoyable. The price is right: free.

Prospective and current members of the Chapter Board will be on hand to meet and greet you. The AGM will begin with a ‘sandwich and soup’ lunch providing an opportunity to social network.

There will be an accompanying ‘info fair’ provided by a number of affinity partners, other non-profit organizations, and various service and product suppliers.

The formal part of the AGM will be called to order at 130pm. Following a short report on the Chapter activities and plans including a financial report, there will be an election of five Board members.

Ross Mayot, CARP Vice President Community will be our special guest speaker. No doubt Ross will make substantive remarks on CARP interests and priorities particularly with respect to the forthcoming federal election on May 2!

The AGM will conclude at 3pm (with a 50/50 draw) and attendees will be encouraged to further socialize and visit the information tables.

Since January I continue to be active promoting ‘pension reform’ via the National Pension Reform Committee’s activities. In addition, on February 21 I spoke at the “Grandparents Rights Family Dinner” and on March 9 made a presentation to the Rotary affiliated Probus Club.

During ‘Seniors Month’ in June the Chapter will be participating at several events including the Centres for Seniors Info Day and the June 15 CAW Retiree’s Day at the Caboto Club. Watch our web site for more details.

Respectively,

Larry Duffield, Chairperson,
