CARP Georgian Bay Chapter under the leadership of Ian Kerr, is enthusiastically embracing the “Home for Life” Project, a collaborative effort of CGMH ( Collingwood General and Marine Hospital), the new SGBCHC (South Georgian Bay Community Health Centre), the Georgian Bay Family Health Team and Community Connect/211. The ultimate objective of this project is to make “South Georgian Bay the Healthiest Community in Canada.”
The short term objective of this initiative is to keep 100 seniors in their homes, seniors who ordinarily might need hospitalization or support in a Long Term Care facility. The Home for Life project focuses on 3 pillars:
- Home Visits
- Technology Training for Seniors
- Fitness
CARP, Chapter 14 is working to support the Technology pillar, since many of our members could benefit from learning computer skills in order to communicate with family and friends, research information using the Internet, and benefit from CARP’s informative and useful communication system. The first Technology Training for Seniors session was held in September, with additional sessions planned for October and beyond. For further information, please follow this link, or call 211 and ask for the project by name.
Cheers, Ian
