Become a Volunteer Facilitator with the Family Literacy Program
The Family Literacy Program is a series of free, interactive workshops for parents and children ages 0-6, offered by the Region of Peel, Children’s Services. This program is led entirely by volunteers who actively facilitate the program at one of our sites each week. We rely on volunteers to make the Family Literacy Program possible, and to provide these services to families in Peel.
We are currently recruiting volunteers for the next session of the Family Literacy Program.
As a Volunteer Facilitator, you will:
- Work with a partner to co-facilitate the Family Literacy Program once a week for nine weeks
- Lead activities for parents and children, according to the Family Literacy Curriculum
- Engage families with songs, stories, games, activities, and crafts that promote early literacy development
- Address a new stand-alone topic each week that encourages parents to read to their children, introduce numeracy into their child’s daily routine, and make language fun
Full training is provided, and no experience is necessary. Programs are offered in English, French, Mandarin, and Punjabi. If you enjoy working with parents and young children, love literacy, or have a passion for teaching, this is a great way to get involved in your community.
