2013 Board of Directors

CARP St. John’s-Avalon Chapter

2013 Board of Directors

The Annual General Meeting of the St. John’s-Avalon Chapter was held on Thursday, January 24, 2013. The guest speaker was Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Constable Kevin Foley who spoke on “Electronic Safety for Parents and Grandparents”.  His presentation was very comprehensive outlining the various threats to all internet users, young and old, and the do’s and don’ts in dealing with security issues.

The election of the 2013 Board of Directors took place at this meeting resulting in the following twelve members elected to serve:

Chair: Edgar Williams; Vice-Chair: Roy Church; Treasurer: Gerry Bowers; Secretary: Marlene Bayers; Directors: Lorraine Best, Maurice Brewster, Sharron Callahan, Don Dooley, Cyril Ludlow, Fraser March, Doug Tilley, and Patricia Whelan.

Four new members were welcomed: Marlene Bayers, Sharron Casllahan, Cyril Ludlow, and Fraser March.  Barbara Byrne was thanked for her service for the past two years.

For the first time, there is a Board member from outside the St. John’s Metropolitan area. Fraser March is a resident of Blaketown and has agreed to Chair the Chapter Membership Committee.  His Challenge to all current members is to send him the name and email address of at least one person who is not a current member of CARP. If we all did this, and we were successful in recruiting new members this way, then our membership base would increase meaning that CARP would have a stronger voice advocating on issues of concern to all seniors.

We look forward to a successful year. If you have any suggestions for Board consideration, please, let me know. We are always ready to listen.

Cheers,

Ed Williams, Chapter Chair
