September 2013 (1st. post)

You are invited to the September meeting of Peterborough Chapter #16 of CARP.

Where: Applewood Retirement Residence, 1500 Lansdowne Street West, Peterborough.. See map here

What: Chapter #16 rejuvenation meeting

When: 19th September 2013

Time: 7:30 PM

The October meeting will be on the 17th. Mark your calendar for both meetings

If you are not already a member of CARP, you are welcome to show up and membership applications will be available at the meeting. We need your interest and support. It is hoped that we will have a standing room only crowd at this first meeting. There, I will try to set up interim committees (for Agenda, Contact, Telephone, Social) and enlist a good secretary to navigate us for the balance of 2013 and beyond. As far as I know that means only three meetings. (Sep, Oct, Nov.). I can’t do this alone. You are needed.

The interim committees will, hopefully, move together to form a Board and Executive for the Chapter and plan for an AGM (Annual General Meeting) to be held sometime next Spring when the interim “steering group” can call for Volunteers for the people who will drive Chapter #16 in the future to become the best chapter in the Central Area. We have some real “go-getters” in Peterborough and if we can get them involved in our chapter it will be an overwhelming success. The “Competition” is really good in some of the other chapters but our enthusiasm can do it!

We are willing to consider changing day of the week or month because our meetings conflict with local hockey and lacrosse activities. Let’s talk about it. It has been suggested that meetings be tried in daylight hours because many older people don’t like driving after dark, but if we do that, will we lose the members who are still working? Do those people come out to the meetings anyway? It has been said that a change of venue should be considered. The present location, through the generosity of Applewood Retirement Residence, provides a comfortable and large area with useful facilities. Please make a point to use hand sanitizer as you enter the facility.

New postings are being added quite regularly to our web page. Have you checked it out recently? Then leave our page and look around the CARP website to see what the National organization is doing for us in Advocacy and Benefits. We are getting a “good bang for our buck”.

You may make constructive comments and constructive suggestions to [email protected]. Let us know if you are using the website. If you would like to volunteer now for one of the committees mentioned above, please feel free to send me an email at the above address.

The forms available at the meeting to join or renew membership will give you the opportunity to have your name entered for a chance to win a fabulous trip for you and that special someone to the Pacific Isles and Coral Sea. At a prize value of $20,000, wouldn’t you love to go to that exotic destination? Even if your renewal time is a few months away you can get in on this opportunity by renewing now. Your name is also entered if you are giving a gift subscription to a relative or friend, (makes a nice Christmas gift) and that will help CARP on its March to a Million members. Chapter membership is free and is included when you subscribe to CARP Membership or to Zoomer Magazine. When you join or renew, your spouse is automatically made a member. When joining or renewing please tell them or mark your application as being Chapter #16 because it gives us a little credit. You can enroll toll free at 1-800-363-9736 if preferred.

Many of our members do not have computers or email so it is difficult to contact them. If you happen to know any Zoomers who are not on-line please invite them to our meetings.
