PEI Finance Minister Wes Sheridan to Host CARP AGM Town Hall Thursday October 24th 2013

Susan and Wes Sheridan

CARP has confirmed that PEI Finance Minister Wes Sheridan will be attending the CARP AGM next Thursday (October 24th, 2013).  Minister Sheridan Chairs the Pensions Subcommittee of the Federal, Provincial and Territorial Finance Ministers Group and, as previously covered in CARP Action Online, he recently issued a salvo to his counterparts calling on them to enhance the CPP.   He will be hosting a Town Hall where he will be discussing his proposal for CPP enhancement.  It would seem that Minister Sheridan has spurred momentum for pension reform; following his announcement, sources inside the Ontario Government also revealed that the province was eyeing a provincial pension plan.

The next Finance Ministers’ meeting will take place in mid-December, so this appearance will present an important opportunity for CARP members to take his message back to their respective Finance Ministers and request that they endorse Mr. Sheridan call for CPP enhancement.

The Town Hall is scheduled for 2 pm and Minister Sheridan will be available to media after that. The AGM is being held at ZoomerPlex, which is located at 70 Jefferson Avenue, Toronto, Ontario.
