It’s November meeting time.

What: Chapter #16 General meeting

When: 21 November2013

Time:7:30 – 9:30 PM

Where: Applewood Retirement Residence, 1500 Lansdowne Street West, Peterborough. See map here

We hope you are enjoying the new format of our meetings. On November 21st you will hear a Speaker from Community Care Peterborough. Having had personal experience with utilizing their services I can attest to the very fine help available to Seniors and others. Some services are offered at nominal cost and others are provided free. The speaker will be able to inform you of all of their services and will be happy to answer your questions.

Enjoy piano music provided by one of our many talented members. We will have a 50/50 draw. Can you help by selling the tickets for that draw? Also, there will be draw prizes generously donated by our October Speaker, Kevin Tomlinson, who spoke to us on Border crossing issues. Kevin left two nice prizes for our November meeting. If you missed Kevin at the last meeting be sure to pick up one of his hand-outs on 21st. It is packed with good information.  We plan to do the 50/50 and draw prize at each meeting in future. Do you have any small items such as DVDs that you would like to donate as draw prizes at future meetings?

I have received no information regarding a change of evening for our meetings but I understand that our Chair continues to negotiate for us.

We have been disappointed in our attempts to recruit volunteers to help in organizing and operating our chapter. Your help is needed. Our pianist will not be available to entertain at winter meetings. Can you help with some lively instrumental or vocal music to juice up the souls of the audience for five or ten minutes? Can you help us to spread the word about CARP, arrange for sponsors and advertisers, plan for speakers at our meetings or telephone any members who do not have email addresses? With the enthusiastic participation of a number of volunteers, the work load of each individual would amount to only about an hour or less per person per month. Can a couple of you help Jay with the Social committee arranging for light refreshments after the meetings adjourn?  As a full time Care-giver it is impossible for me to handle all of the details.

I have been informed that there will NOT be a meeting in December which would have been on December 19. That is close to Christmas so we expect the membership will have other priorities needing attention.

Some of you have mentioned that you are not receiving the emails that I send, I write the emails here and then they are processed through a mailing list at the National Office in Toronto and I have no control of that list. Attempts have been made to contact the support people there but they are probably very busy and I have not received replies to email requests for contact. I will continue to try, so bear with me.

If you happen to know any Zoomers who are not on-line please invite them to our meetings. We are hoping to contact them by using the free support offered by the local Community TV Channel and by the local paper
