Dear _________,

You are my elected representative, so I want you to know how important it is to me that all Canadians to have a death of their choosing.

There will be a critical information session in Ottawa on June 10thwhere two of Canada’s leading experts on the right to die with dignity, Dr. James Downar and Professor Jocelyn Downie will provide an informed look at the evidence around assisted dying and to answer any questions MPS or Senators might have. Wanda Morris, the CEO of Dying With Dignity, will also be present. Here are thefull details of the event.

Whatever your personal views on this matter, I truly hope that you will take to heart the wishes of a strong majority of Canadians to have an informed discussion on this issue. I believe, the demographics in your riding align very closely with those who are highly supportive of the right to die with dignity (educated and affluent being two particular drivers). The prevalence of seniors in your riding is also critical as the latest CARP poll on good deathshowed that 88% of CARP members want a discussion on this topic.

The CARP poll also showed that 43% of respondents would vote for an MP who supported assisted death, 41% would not be affected and 8% would oppose. This is not an issue you can afford to ignore!

Please be clear that as supporters of the right to die with dignity, we don’t believe anyone should ever be coerced into being involved if they choose not to do so. And we know the evidence from jurisdictions that have legalized choice show that abuses decrease after legalization takes place. Please come out and get informed.

I do hope you attend the session. In any case, I look forward to your acknowledgement of this email and your response to the invitation.

Sincerely,
