CARP Flag Raising 2014 St. John’s

In 2011, the federal government designated October 1 as National Senior’s Day to coincide with the International Day of Older Persons and intended to raise public awareness in Canada  and recognize the “continuing contribution of Canada’s seniors in their community, their province and to the nation.”

In conjunction with CARP Chapters from coast to coast, the St. John’s-Avalon Chapter, in cooperation with members of the St. John’s Municipal Council and the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Seniors and with the assistance of the Mayor will recognize all seniors by raising the St. John’s-Avalon Chapter Flag at the St. John’s City Hall. This event is scheduled for 2:30 PM Monday, September 29 prior to the weekly meeting of the St. John’s Municipal Council, at which Mayor Dennis O’Keefe will read a Proclamation designating the week September 29-October 5 as Seniors Week in the City of St. John’s.

Chapter members are invited to attend the Flag Raising Ceremony at City Hall near the flag poles outside on the second level. Please arrive about 2:15 PM. You may park in visitors parking, lower level of City Hall. Members may also sit in the public gallery when the proclamation is being read at the beginning of the Council meeting.

It would be helpful to know if you are planning to attend. Please respond by September 26 to Sharron Callahan at [email protected] .
