Lifeline and Shingles: St. John’s-Avalon Chapter Meeting

CARP St. John’s-Avalon Chapter General Meeting

There will be a general meeting of the St. John’s-Avalon Chapter of CARP on Thursday, November 27, 2 PM in the Conference Room on the first floor of Tiffany Village Personal Care Home, 50 Tiffany Lane, St. John’s.

The guest speaker will be Ms. Catherine Connolly, Lifeline Community Representative, Philips Home Healthcare Solutions. Catherine will provide us with the latest information on the potential benefits of the various lifeline devices now available. During a recent conversation, she reported that presently there are about 1700 lifeline units in use in this province and approximately 14,000 requests for assistance were made last year. Lifeline is the only company offering fall protection. New features coming soon will include compatibility with cellular service. We think that this session should be of interest to our members.

If time permits, we hope to have a discussion about the shingles vaccine. We would be interested in hearing from members who have had the shingles or who have been vaccinated or who may (or may not) be considering vaccination. This issue has become of concern to many who argue that government should consider making the shingles vaccine available to high risk older citizens.

This session is free to all CARP Members and their guests and refreshments will be served. In order for us to plan for this session, please respond by November 21 by return email to me.
Thanks and I hope to see you at this meeting.

Chair, CARP St. John’s-Avalon Chapter
