CARP Edmonton – Who are we?

CARP Edmonton is one of 60 Chapters of a National organization across Canada, encompassing more than 300,000 members dedicated to a New Vision for Canadians as we age. The Edmonton Chapter lists more than 3,800 members in Norther Alberta. Plus, there are more than  14,000 throughout Alberta, with a chapter also in Calgary. Our strength in numbers ensures our influence with governments at all levels.

We are a non-profit, non-partisan membership organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all Canadians as we age.

The three pillars of CARP, the ABCs, are Advocacy, Benefits, and Community. We advocate on behalf of our members on issues of Health Care, Financial Security, and against age discrimination, ensuring that all citizens have the right to continue working, driving and living independently for as long as possible, with financial and physical security .

The Edmonton Chapter has a very active Advocacy committee. In keeping with National objectives, our goal is to engage with governments to ensure policy changes positively affect the well being of Albertans, protecting the rights and dignity of people as they age. We support those policies we see as beneficial, and offer alternatives where we see negatives issues. Our Chapter works with the national office on national events, benefits and issues, but primarily focuses on issues and concerns specific to Albertans and the Northern Alberta region.

On the Benefits side, CARP provides a variety of savings through our affinity partners. Check with the National Website for more information.

Our Community is our strength! Every new member strengthens CARPs influence. The core value of CARP is a commitment to the rights and dignity of every individual, regardless of age, with financial security, good health and freedom from discrimination as guiding principles. We partner with other CARP chapters and other Seniors’ organizations to present a common message and voice to governments.

The membership tries to have meetings four times a year, including one annual general meeting in May where board elections are held. Other special events are held during the year, sometimes in the form of information presentations, and sometimes just for fun.

Members are kept in touch with local activities, events and promotions through the CARP website (carp.ca/groups/ch13). A chapter newsletter emailed to all members who have supplied an e-mail address. If you have not received  our news letters, let us know by e-mailing [email protected].  We will put you on the list.

We also use automated phone calls to advise of upcoming events.

We believe that the best ideas and talents may still be available and untapped among our membership at large. If you would like to become actively involved, we’d love to hear from you. Contact us at [email protected].
