Halton Chapter Community Meetings in March

CARP Halton Chapter Community Meetings in March “De-mythifying Nutrition”

Are you bemused or even overwhelmed by the huge variety of information available about nutrition? How do you cut through all of this information to sort out what is just marketing hype to determine if a food is ‘good’ or ‘bad’ for you? What does food labelling really tell you and how do you really understand the nutritional information on food packages?

Would you like to know what “eating well” actually means? Then please join us at one of our two meetings in March where we have invited an expert in this field to help you sort out all of the noise about nutrition. Current food guidelines will be discussed and you will also get practical advice on healthy eating.

Our presenter will be registered dietitian Uma Sebastiampillai who works part time at the region of Halton. Uma has her Masters in community nutrition from the University of Toronto. She has worked in public health nutrition for about 14 years and currently supports adult and children’s nutrition at public health. She has worked in a number of sectors including hospitals. LTC , the pharmaceutical industry and for the community.

Our Milton meeting will take place on Wednesday March 14th beginning at 6.30pm at the Seniors Activity Centre, 500 Childs Drive, Milton.

Our Burlington meeting will take place on Thursday March 22nd beginning at 6.30pm at the Seniors Centre, 2285 New Street, Burlington.

Doors will open at both locations at 6.30pm with the main meeting taking place between 7.00pm and 9.00pm. Coffee and tea will be available. In addition Chartwell Retirement Residence will be supplying treats at our Burlington meeting. We would like to thank them on behalf of everyone in attendance for their generosity.

The meetings will begin with a short welcoming address from our Chapter President Tom Carrothers. Tom will also provide a brief update on your CARP Halton Chapter and CARP National activities.

This will be followed by our important presentation.

There will be a break at the midway point which will allow time to socialize with fellow members and to visit our sponsors.  Burlington Memorial Gardens will sponsor both meetings and Don “Condo Don” Bassindale will be at our Burlington meeting. We encourage you to chat with our sponsors and gather more information about the services they provide. Halton Chapter thanks our sponsors for their support at all of our meetings.

Burlington Memorial Gardens: Established in 1979, Burlington Memorial Gardens features over 100 acres of beautifully landscaped and immaculately manicured gardens. Part of the Arbor group of cemeteries and funeral homes, the property is part of the historic Niagara Escarpment.

Don “Condo Don” Bassindale: Helping Seniors find their ideal home.

Both meetings will conclude with a few closing remarks from Tom and our 50/50 draw. We encourage you to support this draw as proceeds help defray the costs incurred in putting on our meetings. Plus if you are the lucky winner at Burlington you will typically take home over $110.

Our meetings are FREE. All are welcome. Please support CARP Halton Chapter. We look forward to meeting our members and friends.
