Natasha Raey

Natasha Raey is a serial entrepreneur and consultant whose current work is focused on the health care, cannabis, and wellness industries. Natasha has managed the planning and development of large-scale health centers in both Vancouver and Toronto. Her work currently includes strategizing with her regional Health Authority in B.C., at the local community level, to implement a number of COVID-19-related initiatives.

In 2017, she opened Cadence Health Centre, a team-based multidisciplinary health centre and pharmacy in downtown Toronto. In 2014, she co-founded SheTalks Global, an annual speaker series and conference showcasing influential women in diverse fields. In 2020, Natasha founded Skye Cannabis Co., a retail cannabis store based in British Columbia. Most recently, in 2019, Natasha founded Bloom & Elix, an enterprise developing wellness and brain health supplements for women. She also serves as an independent business, marketing, and public relations consultant for a number of social enterprises, public institutions, and non-government organizations. Ms. Raey holds a Masters of health administration from The University of British Columbia, and a BSc, molecular biology and biochemistry (honours), from Simon Fraser University.

Bill VanGorder

Chief Policy Officer & Chief Operating Officer for C.A.R.P.

Bill VanGorder is Chief Policy Officer and Chief Operating Officer for C.A.R.P -A New Vision of Aging for Canada and was the Founding Chair of (2007) of the C.A.R.P. Nova Scotia Chapter.
He is the immediate Past Chair of the Nova Scotia Advisory Committee on Seniors’ Issues to the Provincial Government (The Group of Nine) on which he has served for the past 12 years; 

Chair of the Serving Seniors Alliance Cooperative and longtime Board Member of the Theatre Arts Guild.

From 1991 to 2007, Bill was the President and CEO of The Lung Association of Nova Scotia. Previously he spent 28 years with the YMCA, for the final 12 years as the Atlantic Area Director for the YMCA.

Bill is a graduate of Sir Wilfred Laurier University with a degree in Politics & Public Administration and is both a Certified Association Executive (CAE) and a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE ).

Bill and his wife Esther live in Halifax Nova Scotia. They have two daughters and two grandchildren. And they have two cats Calli and Skye who run the house.

BSc MBBS (Hons) CCFP, Family Physician at REACH Community Health Centre

Dr.Birinder Narang is a Family Doctor working in East Vancouver. He graduated with Honours from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery Degree & residency in Family Medicine from University of Manitoba. He currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors on the Burnaby Divisions of Family Practice, a Clinical Assistant Professor for the UBC Department of Family Medicine and as a Family Physician at REACH Community Health Centre. 

He is on the Steering Committee of the South Asian Covid Task Force and is a founding member of “This is Our Shot Vaccine Confidence Campaign”. Additionally, he is a Medical Contributor for Global BC. He enjoys working with marginalized populations, and regularly sees patients with active mental health disorders, substance use disorders, trans-gendered patients, and refugee claimants, along with training medical students and residents.

Andy is Certified Geriatric Pharmacist. He completed 4 university degrees (including a Master’s Degree in cell biology at Queen’s and Pharmacy school at U of T). He has been a large advocate in pharmacy for many years. He believes that pharmacists can do so much more to help improve patient medication safety and care in the community setting. 

He was the founder of SOAPE (Students for Optimizing and Advocating Pharmacy Endeavors) at U of T, a recent Ontario Pharmacists Association committee member and is a currently Pharmacy Ambassador for PrescribeIT in Canada.

Canada Research Chair in Health Law and Policy, University of Alberta, Author, Speaker and Host of A User's Guide to Cheating Death

Timothy Caulfield is a Canada Research Chair in Health Law and Policy, a Professor in the Faculty of Law and the School of Public Health, and Research Director of the Health Law Institute at the University of Alberta. His interdisciplinary research on topics like stem cells, genetics, research ethics, the public representations of science and public health policy has allowed him to publish over 350 academic articles. 

He has won numerous academic, science communication, and writing awards and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. He contributes frequently to the popular press and is the author of two national bestsellers: The Cure for Everything: Untangling the Twisted Messages about Health, Fitness and Happiness (Penguin 2012) and Is Gwyneth Paltrow Wrong About Everything?: When Celebrity Culture and Science Clash (Penguin 2015). His most recent book is Relax, Dammit!: A User's Guide to the Age of Anxiety (Penguin Random House, 2020) (US Title: Your Day, Your Way). Caulfield is also the host and co-producer of the award-winning documentary TV show, A User's Guide to Cheating Death, which has been shown in over 60 countries, including streaming on Netflix in North America.

Dr. Jai Hu

19-Zero CEO, Co-Chair & Co-Founder

Jia Hu, MD, is a Primary Care Physician, co-chair, co-founder of 19 To Zero, and member of Cleveland Clinic Canada’s Medical Director Program. Dr. Hu obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Harvard University before going on to obtain his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alberta. He completed his residency at the University of Toronto and St. Mike’s Hospital.

His strong interest in Health Policy and Planning led him to London, UK, where he completed a Masters at the London School of Economics & London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Most recently, Dr. Hu completed training in Public Health and Preventive Medicine at the University of Toronto.

Following his residency, Jia worked in management consulting at McKinsey, with a focus on the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors. He is currently a Medical Officer of Health with Alberta Health Services, where he has played an important role in many aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic, including scaling-up of testing and contact tracing, development of the mobile contact tracing app, assisting organizations with COVID-19 preparedness and re-opening, and engaging in risk communications. He works part-time as a family physician at a clinic and a long-term care that serves patients with complex medical, mental health, and substance abuse issues.

He is a Board member for Partners in Health (PIH) Canada, where he works to diversify funding and develop a strategic plan to increase PIH Canada activities both internationally and with Indigenous populations domestically. He is also the Treasurer and Executive Member for Public Health Physicians of Canada (PHPC). In this role, Dr. Hu provides financial oversight to PHPC, the national specialist society for public health physicians.

When he is not practicing medicine, Dr. Hu stays active by jogging and playing squash. He is conversant in Mandarin Chinese.

M.D., Founder and Principal Investigator of PrimeHealth Clinical Research

Iris Gorfinkel, M.D. is the Founder and Principal Investigator of PrimeHealth Clinical Research. She has participated in over sixty clinical trials, several of which focus on vaccines. She is a medical analyst for CBC RadioOne and Global News and has a weekly radio column on each of these. She is a frequent contributor to the Canadian Medical Association Journal as well as a peer reviewer for the CMAJ.
