2009 Halton Chapter AGM Reaches New Highs

According to over 200 attendees at the CARP Halton Chapter Annual General Meeting in June 2009, the Chapter is now taking such great strides to make our existing members feel part of a real ‘action’ team!

Oakville Conference Centre in Oakville hosted the first AGM outside Burlington and drew CARP members and guests from all over Halton. We were so pleased to welcome CARP members from Toronto and the Niagara Region to experience and share the values of our growing Chapter, according to Greg Metrakos, the outgoing Halton Chapter Chair.

Halton Regional Chair, Gary Carr offered an inspiring call for the Halton Chapter to play a great role to assist communities throughout Halton by addressing key strategic health and financial issues that impact the quality of life of our aging population. As a CARP member himself, Gary looks forward to a greater involvement in supporting what the Halton Chapter can offer to the over 100,000 seniors throughout Halton.

Sheldon Wolfson, Director, Services for Seniors in Halton presented an enlightening presentation on the recent Quality of Life Report that highlights the key issues facing our aging population and how CARP can be a strategic partner to address many of the recommendations. He received an overwhelming response for his wonderful presentation plus by announcing his commitment to be a new CARP member and was immediately ‘signed-up’ by our Chapter volunteers. Sheldon is now helping arrange meeting locations across Halton for upcoming Chapter Membership meetings planned for this fall and into 2010.

The entire evening was filled with a lot of interactive discussion, presentations and most of all ‘one of a kind’ entertainment by an award winning (Oakville resident) jazz vocalist and accompanying guitarist.

The bottom line, the 2009 Halton Chapter AGM could not have been as successful without the absolutely overwhelming support of over 20 event sponsors who contributed to being at the AGM and offering a financial donation to the vision and efforts of the Halton Chapter. We are so grateful to have the support of so many and partners to move the Chapter forward. Please see another article to be posted on our Halton Website for the list of all the sponsors who supported our AGM.
