CARP extends a warm welcome to Susan Holt, New Brunswick’s newly elected Premier. As the province’s first female premier, Holt’s leadership represents a historic moment. Her campaign included several key commitments that resonate deeply with CARP members and New Brunswick’s aging population, particularly in areas of healthcare, home care, and affordability. CARP is eager to see how these promises translate into action, and we are committed to working collaboratively to ensure the needs of seniors remain a priority for this new government.
One of Holt’s central pledges to seniors is improved access to healthcare. New Brunswick, like many other provinces, has been grappling with healthcare challenges, including long wait times and shortages of healthcare professionals. CARP has consistently advocated for enhanced access to healthcare services, particularly for seniors who often face difficulties accessing timely care. Premier Holt’s commitment to addressing these issues is a positive step forward, and CARP will continue to monitor progress and advocate for solutions that improve the overall healthcare system for seniors.
Holt has also echoed CARP’s emphasis on the need to expand home care services. Most seniors prefer to age in place, but the availability and affordability of home care can be limiting. CARP has long supported policies that allow seniors to remain in their homes safely and comfortably, and the expansion of home care services is crucial to this goal. CARP will work closely with the Holt government to ensure that home care services receive the necessary funding and infrastructure improvements, helping seniors maintain their independence for as long as possible.
Affordability is another key issue facing seniors in New Brunswick, especially those on fixed incomes. Rising costs of living, including housing and everyday expenses, can strain the financial resources of many older adults. Premier Holt’s campaign acknowledged these challenges, and her government is expected to address affordability concerns through targeted programs and initiatives. CARP will actively engage in these discussions to ensure that seniors are not left behind in efforts to make life more affordable across the province.
While CARP is committed to supporting Premier Holt’s work on behalf of seniors, we will also maintain our role as a strong advocate for accountability. As with our work with other provincial leaders, we will hold the government to its commitments and ensure that seniors’ voices are heard throughout the decision-making process. This includes continuing to advocate for policies that improve the quality of life for seniors and ensuring that the promises made during the campaign translate into meaningful action.
In the coming months, CARP will continue to work closely with the Premier and her government to address key issues facing seniors in New Brunswick. We encourage our members in NB to stay engaged and informed as we push together for policies that will improve the quality of life for all older adults in the province.
