Update – March 12, 2025 Registration Portal Now Open
Beginning April 11, 2025, Snowbirds visiting the United States for 30 days or more must register with the U.S. government prior to the expiration of that 30-day period. Canadians who enter the United States through a land border are generally not issued an I-94 when crossing into the U.S.
Typically the issuance of an I-94 has been an administrative task before this executive order and visitors are not aware if an I-94 has been issued. But soon, the U.S. will require and enforce the I-94 requirement and so all Canadians visiting for more than 30 days should take action.
Canadians who were not issued a Form I-94 must register online with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. (see below)
Create an online account with USCIS here: https://my.uscis.gov/
Log in to your USCIS online account and complete and submit the new Form G-325R.
Once you complete and submit Form G-325R, you will be issued a digital “Proof of Alien Registration” through your USCIS account. You must carry this document with you during your stay in the United States.
Canadians not seeking immigration status are not required to be fingerprinted.
CARP urges snowbirds planning to travel or currently residing in the USA to take action amid ongoing changes in U.S. policy affecting Canadian citizens spending extended periods in the country.
With recent executive orders and shifting regulations, such as those outlined on the USCIS Alien Registration website https://www.uscis.gov/
This upheaval in policy implementation demands vigilance, as failure to comply could result in civil or criminal penalties. Snowbirds should closely monitor evolving U.S. policies to ensure compliance and avoid unexpected disruptions to their travel plans.

Those currently travelling in the USA are advised to check https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/home to understand their current I-94 entry registration status.
If your I-94 related to your current trip is not registered on that website, registration will likely be required with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services when their promised online registration portal opens.
As of March 7, 2025, this is the message on the UCIS website:
How to register
DHS will soon announce a form and process for aliens to complete the registration requirement. Beginning Feb. 25, 2025, aliens required to register should create a USCIS online account in preparation for the registration process. See our How to Create a USCIS Online Account page for more information. Once the registration process is implemented, aliens will submit their registration, and parents and guardians will submit registration applications on behalf of their children under 14, through their USCIS online account.
