CARP Launches Social Media Campaign to Spotlight Seniors’ Top Election Issues

April 03, 2025

As Canada heads into a critical election season, the Canadian Association of Retired Persons – CARP,  is launching a hard-hitting social media campaign to demand action on the dire challenges facing seniors and our members.

The situation is desperate—and it’s only getting worse. We’re zeroing in on three urgent issues that threaten the security, justice, and dignity of Canada’s aging population, and we’re calling on candidates to step up before it’s too late.

Old Age Security (OAS) Under Siege

Seniors are staring down a financial cliff. With governments scrambling to balance budgets amid a weak economy, soaring deficits, and pressures from a potential Trump administration’s policies, cuts to OAS loom large. For millions, OAS isn’t just support—it’s survival. Yet, once again, seniors are at risk of being sacrificed to fix fiscal messes they didn’t create. The desperation is real: without OAS, many will face poverty, and the situation will only deteriorate as economic strains grow. CARP demands OAS be protected—full stop.

Justice Denied: Fraud and Scams Devastate Seniors

Fraudsters are bleeding seniors dry, stealing billions annually, while the response from police, prosecutors, and banks remains shamefully inadequate. Education campaigns aren’t cutting it—thousands of seniors are left as victims, their life savings gone, their trust shattered, and no justice in sight. The crisis is escalating: as scams multiply, seniors are increasingly vulnerable, treated as mere statistics rather than people deserving protection. CARP is fighting for real deterrents—tough laws and prosecutions—to stop this epidemic before more lives are ruined.

Home Care Crisis: Dignity Slipping Away

Canada’s aging population is exploding, but homecare investment is nowhere near keeping up. Hospitals and care homes are already buckling—overflowing and understaffed—and it’s set to become a full-blown catastrophe. Seniors are being denied the dignity of aging at home, forced into impossible choices as the system crumbles. The need is urgent: without massive investment now, countless seniors will suffer neglect in the coming years. CARP insists on a plan to deliver homecare that meets this growing crisis head-on.
