Aviation History with a CARP Discount

On a recent trip to Winnipeg, I carved out a few hours to visit the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada — and I’m so glad I did. Even better, I used my CARP membership for 20% off admission, which made it even easier to say yes to a bit of spontaneous exploration.

If you’re flying in or out of Winnipeg, it’s literally across the parking lot from the airport — a perfect stop if you have a layover or a few hours to spare, or just looking to add to your Winnipeg tourist or staycation itinerary.

Inside, the museum brings to life a fascinating chapter of Canada’s history — how aviation helped open up the vast and rugged North. You’ll learn how early bush pilots braved harsh weather and unknown terrain to deliver medicine, mail, and passengers to remote communities. These weren’t just flights — they were lifelines.

From the bold colours of the Canadian Airways goose to the sleek lines of the Snowbirds jet, the museum highlights the daring spirit of flight and the role Winnipeg played in Canada’s western expansion. You get to step inside vintage cockpits, walk beneath legendary aircraft, and really feel the grit and courage it took to fly these machines.

It’s a meaningful visit for all ages — whether you remember these planes from your youth or are seeing them for the first time with wonder.

Highly recommended. Don’t forget your CARP card!
