Sharron Callahan and the folks at the Newfoundland & Labrador Chapter of CARP are on a mission to not only encourage members to get out and vote in the October 14th provincial election, but to also empower them with information to inform that vote.
In advance of that, and in cooperation with the NL Seniors Coalition, the Chapter will sponsor a public Town Hall meeting on October 11 at the Salvation Army Citadel Sanctuary between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm. The goal is to raise awareness around the issues impacting seniors and to challenge those seeking election to address those issues with honesty and commitment, according to Callahan, the Chapter’s Chair. The three political parties (Liberal, PC and NDP) will be present.
CARP NL and the Coalition have done the homework to identify the most pressing concerns and put them into a list of questions that voters can use when their candidates come knocking. Not surprisingly, the issues that are top of mind for seniors in the province fall into three major categories: financial security and the cost of living, healthcare and safety.
Following the election, Callahan says CARP NL will follow-up quickly with MPs to ensure promises made during the election are actioned and continue to press for remedies for all other issues that require attention.
