Fall Prevention and Home Modifications

We are pleased to share with you a replay of our 2023 Fall Prevention Webinar.
The presentation was very well received and filled with informative information on how to avoid falls and what to look out for when planning to outfit your home (inside and out) with modifications than can help to prevent falls.
Our expert speaker, Nancy Edwards has also shared with you, a summary of her slides and notes that accompanied her presentation:

Research shows that every year 1 out of 3 seniors will fall.Falls are the number one reason for injury-related death, hospitalization and emergency department visits for older adults in Canada. Falls among older adults cost $5.6 billion annually – nearly 20 per cent of the total cost of injury in Canada.

By the Numbers (Age 65+, in Canada)

5000 deaths (average of 14 seniors per day)
95,000 hospitalizations
425,000 Emergency Department visits, and
28,000 ongoing disabilities

So what’s the best way to combat this epidemic of falls?

In this meeting we will discuss fall prevention, home modifications indoors or outdoors, and some resources to consider to help around the home to prevent and detect falls.
