CARP HAS YOUR BACK.
PLEASE HAVE OURS.

In 2019, CARP President Moses Znaimer discovered Jill Sobule’s beautiful song, “Don’t Let Us Get Sick.” Here’s how it became a soundtrack for CARP.

In 2019, Moses invited singer-songwriter Jill Sobule to perform at his 20th-anniversary ideacity conference in Toronto. Moses was captivated by Jill’s folk-inflected tunes whose lyrics reflected real people’s real stories. He had heard Jill’s new album, “Nostalgia Kills,” and was particularly struck by a song called “Don’t Let Us Get Sick”, whose chorus went as follows:

Don’t let us get sick
Don’t let us get old
Don’t let us get stupid, all right?
Just make us be brave
And make us play nice
And let us be together tonight

Moses thought the song was perfect for a CARP statement, except for the word “old.” Getting “old” is a privilege, something we all aspire to be. So Moses asked Jill if she would re-record the song and replace the word “old” with the word “frail.”

Don’t let us get sick
Don’t let us get frail
Don’t let us get stupid, all right?
Just make us be brave
And make us play nice
And let us be together tonight

What a difference a word makes! Now the song perfectly captures CARP’s mission and attitude. Nowhere is this demonstrated more clearly than in the new advocacy campaign CARP is launching now – an all-out effort to get Canada’s leaders to finally fix our woefully under-performing healthcare system.

CARP has your back. Please have ours.
