David Miller responds to CARP’s call to ensure that seniors are not charged in parks

In a letter addressed to Mayor David Miller October 13th 2009, Susan Eng, Vice President of Advocacy for CARP, called on the Mayor and Toronto City Council to take all necessary measures to ensure that all Toronto residents are welcome to walk in city parks without a licence. Making note of the fact that outdoor activities are contributing to the rise in older Canadians living longer and healthier lives, Eng expressed surprise at having to request that City Council prevent disincentives such as the enforcement of bylaws restricting groups of seniors from walking in public parks. Eng ended her letter by extending an offer to the Mayor to distribute any forthcoming official statement from his office on this matter to CARP members.
