Ontario Ministry of Transportation Needs to Catch up To Other Canadian Jurisdictions

Ontario is not one of these jurisdictions. On December 3rd 2009, CARP was at Queen’s Park during the debate of a Private Member’s Bill that would amend the highway traffic act to allow for the over 65 to have a special voluntary system of conditional licensing. For more on this, click here
At the time, CARP’s statement was that we supported a limited licence for competent drivers of any age who have impairments but are otherwise able to drive safely. But that CARP could not support a bill with an age determination. CARP understands that the Ministry of Transportation is developing a policy on restricted driving and is of the view that this process should be accelerated.
It is time the concept was accepted in every province in Canada, which is why we have written to the new Ontario Minister of Transportation, Kathleen Wynne, to tell her as much. We have asked her to state her position on this important issue and await her response. To read a copy of CARP’s letter to the Minister of Transportation, click here. Hey Ontario, get with the times already!
