Study Description:
As we get older, many of us notice changes in our thinking, but it can often be difficult to access quick and accurate brain health checks in a traditional clinic. This study aims to determine if a new online screening tool can accurately distinguish the early signs of dementia from healthy brain aging. We also want to see if this tool is easy and comfortable for people to use repeatedly from their own homes. Our goal is to develop a more accessible way for everyone to monitor their brain health and maintain their independence as they age.
What is involved?
Participation in this study is completed entirely online from the comfort of your own home using a computer, tablet, or smartphone. You will be asked to take part in three remote sessions over a 12-month period, occurring at the start of the study, at six months, and finally at 12 months. Each of these sessions lasts approximately 30 minutes and involves playing six short digital games that challenge your memory and attention, as well as answering questions about your health background, mood, and daily activities. As a token of appreciation for your time, you will receive a summary of your scores after the final testing session so you can see how you performed.
Who are we recruiting?
We are looking for individuals aged 50 years or older who are fluent in English and fall into one of two groups:
Group 1: Individuals who consider their memory to be healthy, OR who are noticing subtle everyday memory changes (but do not have a clinical diagnosis).
Group 2: Individuals who have been clinically diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) or any type of dementia.
Additional Requirements: Participants must have access to (and basic familiarity with) a laptop, computer, or tablet. They must also have no formal diagnosis of other comorbid neurological, psychiatric, or neurodevelopmental conditions that may impact cognitive function.
What Would I Be Doing:
Three 30-40 minute testing sessions over 12 months, involving 6 online brain games & health questionnaires
