Research on Improving the Use of Acute Care Hospitals for Seniors in Retirement Homes

Have you or your family member had an emergency department visit in the last year?


We are looking for research participants for the study:

"Understanding and improving the use of acute care hospitals for older adults in retirement homes"


Principal Investigator: Dr. Chantal Backman


The goal of this study is to better understand the reasons why older adult retirement home residents require unexpected visits to the hospital.


Who can participate?

● Retirement home residents (age 65+) who have had an emergency department visit in the last 12 months

● Family and friend caregivers (age 18+) of a retirement home resident who had an emergency department visit in the last 12 months


What does participation involve?

You will be asked to complete a 1-hour interview. You may choose to complete the interview in-person, on the phone, or online.


Why should I participate?

Your participation may help researchers identify ways to improve the healthcare system, benefitting others who live in retirement homes in the future.

Participants will also receive a $25 Tim Horton's gift care as a token of appreciation.
