The Toronto mayoral race was front and centre again Wednesday, as the Canadian Association of Retired People hosts a debate at Ryerson University.

The focus of the debate was supposed to be on the city’s aging population.

Front-running candidate George Smitherman has pledged seniors free rides on the TTC between 10am and 2pm on weekdays.

Joe Pantalone has promised to freeze property-tax rates for seniors with a household income of $50,000 or less. He also promised to build what he called “outdoor gyms” for the elderly and expedite the TTC’s plan to make every subway station accessible by elevator.

But much of the focus turned to candidate and councilor Rob Ford.
