ELECTIONS 2010

On Monday, October 25, 2010, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM our Municipal and Region elections will be held. These are VERY IMPORTANT to you as Seniors or Caregivers to Seniors. Your local government has a tremendous impact on your well being and it is the level of government that you have the greatest influence on. We strongly urge you to become active in following the canidates and telling them what you want!!! and vote for those that will best represent your interests.

To help you we have sent each individual who is trying to be elected as mayor or as Reional Chair the following message:

We are writing to you on behalf of the members of the Halton Chapter of CARP and all Seniors and their caregivers living in your municipality and the Region of Halton. CARP is a national, non-partisan, non-profit organization committed to a ‘New Vision of Aging for Canada’ promoting social change that will bring financial security, equitable access to health care and freedom from discrimination. Our mandate is to promote and protect the interests, rights and quality of life for Canadians as we age. We have about 6,000 members within the Region of Halton and over 350,000 in Canada. With the Municipal elections approaching we feel it is critical for Seniors and those who care for Seniors within Halton and its Municipalities to know where those who are running for elected office stand on Seniors’ issues. To this end we are asking you to: 1. Identify what you believe are the critical issues impacting Seniors’ within Halton and your Municipality that you would address if elected. These would be issues that the Municipality and Region have the ability to impact. 2. Clearly state what you would do to address those issues. We will through our web site and our electronic newsletter and press releases be informing Seniors and their care givers of the request we have made. Once responses are received we will make those responses available to them through the same means. We look forward to receiving your input and thoughts.

Regards

As we hear back from the canidates we will update our website with their responses and include them in our newsletter.

We are the largests single voting block in the elections based on size and tendency to vote. Please make our voice heard by speaking up and speaking out and VOTING!!!
