Living Retirement to its Fullest – Community Meeting – September 27th

Article posted September 2011

We hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer, which seems to have gone far too quickly, we think you will all agree.

Your Chapter volunteers have been busily preparing our program for the coming 2011/2012 season which will begin on September 27th at our usual location, Burlington Seniors Centre, 2285 New St. (next to the Library and Arena). We look forward to seeing everyone again at this our first meeting and to your continued support throughout the year.

The theme for our first meeting will be “Living Retirement to its Fullest”

The meeting is open to everyone in Halton Region and is not intended to be for Burlington residents only.

Doors will open at 6.30pm and the presentations will take place between 7.00pm and 9.00pm.

We will begin with a welcoming address from our Chairperson, Tom Carrothers. Tom will also talk about how CARP chapters are playing their part in our Provincial Elections by putting a face on our advocacy issues and bringing the demands of our members directly to the candidates and political parties in their own ridings.

Tom will also review CARP Halton chapter’s goals for 2011 – 2012.

We will then welcome Rick Atkinson who will talk about getting the most out of retirement:

Retirement  Live It and Love It!

A Presentation

Research shows successful retirees recognize the need to plan for happiness and productivity. They evaluate what’s important and construct actions to satisfy their needs and wants. By creating a vision of a realistic retirement and building an action plan to achieve it, they are proactively and energetically seeking results.

Unfortunately, many people approaching retirement (45 to 65) do not know the questions to ask, the options available or how to begin the planning process.

In a 45-minute colourful power point presentation, Rick Atkinson will outline the essential topics for inclusion in a holistic retirement plan including:
• The importance of having a detailed vision of retirement
• The need for a positive attitude
• How to build a balanced leisure, health and wellbeing strategy
• Steps for enriching relationships with spouse, family and friends
• How to find and use a retirement coach or mentor
• Steps to living retirement to its fullest!

Presenter
Richard (Rick) Atkinson, Founder and President of RA Retirement Advisors is an expert in retirement planning. He is the author of the best-selling book, Don’t Just Retire – Live It, Love It!

Rick and the book have received national media coverage in newspapers, television and radio. Don’t Just Retire – Live It, Love It! is on CARP’s Recommended Reading List.

Recognized as one of Canada’s retirement gurus, Rick is a regular speaker at group functions and events. He is well-known for his engaging presentations as well as his practical, involving and results oriented workshops.

We will also be joined by Chris Boucher who will be talking about how beneficial fitness is for daily life activities.

Balance isn’t just standing on one foot to reach the cookie jar. It’s not falling WHILE reaching for that cookie jar. Breathing exercises, as well as muscle/resistance exercises can play a similar role in relaxation.  Chris will be talking about how everything works together for a healthy and active retirement lifestyle.

There will be a short break at around 8.00pm to give everyone a chance to socialize and to meet your Volunteers.

We are also pleased to welcome the Alzheimer Society of Hamilton and Halton who will have a display table outlining their program and the support services they offer.

Tom will offer a few closing remarks and the meeting will end at 9.00pm.

Light refreshments, coffee, tea and cookies will be provided.

There is no charge to attend this meeting. Everyone is welcome. Members bring a friend. Support your local chapter
