Fraud Awareness Event at BC Chapterfeatured on JoyTV

Did you know?

  • Your chances of winning the grand prize in the Lotto 649 is 1 in 14 million!
  • Adults over the age of 65 spend more on gambling than any other age group?
  • The top five scams targeting seniors are grandparent scams, lotteries and sweepstakes, phishing, virus fixing scheme and door-to door sellers.

The White Rock/Surrey chapter of CARP recently hosted an event entitled “You Bet Your Life” which focused on frauds and scams which unfortunately target seniors too often. This is an important topic which fits in nicely with CARP’s concern over elder financial abuse.

Guest speakers were Brenda Lea Brown, Senior Communications Advisor with the B.C. Securities Commission which is promoting its program called Be Fraud Aware/ InvestRight to alert and educate Zoomers on avoiding scams.

Other speaker was Susan Match who is a prevention specialist with the Provincial Government Problem Gambling program.

JoyTV  was there to cover the event which was well received and well attended.
