Murray Alzheimer Research and Education Program (MAREP) Needs Participants

Information posted November 23, 2012

Sherry Dupuis, director of the Murray Alzheimer Research and Education Program (MAREP) at the University of Waterloo, invites you to participate in a project titled Enhancing Relationship-Centred Care through Research-Based Drama.

This new project is focused on using new and existing information to create a new complimentary play focused on exploring the importance of relationships in the lives of those living with dementia and their family members.

“Through our research we have noted that the dominant negative way dementia is viewed and talked about, what I call the tragedy discourse, has a significant influence on the relationships of those living with dementia and their family members. I am inviting you to work with me to begin to develop an alternative discourse on dementia, what I call a possibilities discourse”.

Participation in this project would include taking part in a one day workshop with other persons living with dementia, seven artists from the community and the seven actors working on the play. This workshop will take place on November 29, 2012 from 10 am to 3 pm at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, 550 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. All travel expenses will be covered by the project.

If you have any questions regarding this project, or would like additional information to assist you in reaching a decision about participation, please contact me at (519) 888-4567, Ext. 36188 or by email at [email protected].
