New $5 and $10 notes released today

November 7th, 2013

Say goodbye to paper money in Canada.

With the release today of the 5 and 10 dollar denomination polymer notes, all typical bills, from 100 to five, will be made with the new material and paper bills collected by banks will not be recirculated.

The Bank of Canada issued a press release with the full details. These notes are designed to last longer and prevent counterfeiting, among their highlighted benefits.

They do however, tend to stick together when brand new… so be sure that you’re only handing over the amount of bills you intend, when making a transaction!
