Minister of Seniors receives mandate letter

Minister of Seniors, Deb Schulte

The new Minister of Seniors, Deb Schulte, has received her Mandate Letter from the Prime Minister.

CARP is happy to see that the letter encourages a highly collaborative approach, critical in a minority government, in making Canada a better place to age for all.

Touching on core issues around financial security for retirees, elder abuse prevention, housing, pharmacare, health care and access to programs benefiting seniors, the letter offers a solid overview of commitments to our members across Canada.

While the letter neglects to mention caregivers (who are in desperate need of increased supports so they can continue to reduce burden on our health care system—a glaring omission), CARP is encouraged to see the government moving ahead on tangible priorities affecting seniors across the country.

We’ll continue to work with Minister Schulte to improve the lives of our diverse members across Canada.
