Ontario increases wages for long-term care workers

COVID-19/coronavirus update: April 27, 2020

The Ontario government recently announced a $4/hr wage increase for long-term care workers working over 100 hours per month during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a great move in not only celebrating the hard work and commitment of those on the frontline, but also in attracting and retaining quality care staff in homes.

CARP has long criticized the high rates of employee burnout and turnover that lead to understaffing in long-term care settings. This all adds up to worse care for vulnerable seniors—happy and supported staff can do better for their residents.

We hope to see similar action taken to improve and retain staff levels across the country.
