New study backs CARP’s call for better home care

A new study commissioned by Home Care Ontario confirms the stance of CARP Members: seniors want to stay safe at home as they age.

The study also shows that seniors place top priority on additional funding for home care, as governments plan their response to the tragedy in long-term care caused by COVID-19.

Through our long-term care campaign, CARP is calling for home care to be made the foundation of long-term care in Canada as the system is necessarily rebuilt—flipping the way funding is allocated on its head (Canada spends far less on home care supports vs nursing (care) homes than comparable countries). In this way, the urgent fixes needed to protect seniors in residential care (what we typically think of as “long-term care”) will be far more sustainable and impactful, creating the systemic change needed to save countless lives threatened by the ongoing pandemic.
