C.A.R.P. scores win with expanded high-dose flu vaccine program

C.A.R.P. is thrilled that the high-dose flu vaccine will be available to long-term care residents across the country this year, supported by new federal funding!

This is a huge win for our Members as, for the last few years, we’ve been advocating for this best-in-class vaccine to be fully funded for seniors everywhere (not just those in care homes). This was a major part of both our recent letter to the Prime Minister and 2021 federal budget submission

So far, PEI and Ontario are the only provinces to make it available for free to everyone over 65 and easily accessible at pharmacies. We’ll keep pushing for other parts of Canada to follow their lead, and for the new shingles and best-in-class pneumonia vaccines to be fully-funded as well.

In the world of COVID-19, it’s never been more important to keep up to date with your vaccinations. Experts warn that catching the seasonal flu or pneumonia alongside the coronavirus would wreak havoc on anyone’s body, let alone for an at-risk senior or someone with underlying health issues.
