Take Action: Fund shingles vaccines

Does your province or territory fund the shingles vaccine for all Canadians aged 50 and older? Your email can make that happen (see below).

Shingles is caused by the reactivation of the varicella zoster virus (VZV). The virus not only presents as a painful rash but for older Canadians, getting sick with shingles can mean lasting impacts. Read more about shingles.

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI), whom the provincial and territorial governments rely on for vaccine recommendations, advises shingles vaccines for everyone over 50. Despite this, most provinces do not fund shingles vaccines and none fund according to recommendation.

Please join our campaign demanding the government fund the shingles vaccine now — just fill in your address below and send a customizable letter to your elected official with a click of a button.

The Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP) believes that every province and territory should fund the NACI- recommended shingles vaccine. Access to the best available healthcare should not depend on your postal code. Our members agree. According to a recent CARP Survey, over 94% of respondents think all adult vaccines recommended for older adults by NACI should be publicly funded.
