CARP Stands up for Caregivers

We need policy change for caregivers in Canada NOW.

Why? Here are just some of the reasons:

  • More than 8 million Canadians are unpaid caregivers.
  • The number of older Canadians requiring the support of unpaid caregivers is projected to more than double by 2050.
  • Over half of Canadians will be an unpaid caregiver at some point in their lives.
  • Unpaid represents an estimated $66 billon dollars of care annually.
  • A 2023 survey found that 75% of CARP caregivers find it challenging to care for their own mental and physical health.
  • A CARP survey found women are 50% more likely to report being caregivers than males, as well as 50% more likely to leave their jobs as a result.
  • Over 90% of CARP members want to age in place. We need better home and community supports to make this possible without undue burden on caregivers.
