Make the World a Happier & Healthier Place

CARP is pleased to welcome our new partner GenWell. Its mission, to make the world a happier and healthier place, is one that our organization endorses wholeheartedly. GenWell’s focus is on combatting social and personal isolation, which divides society, making it difficult for citizens—senior or younger—to function at their best in the world. By educating, empowering and catalyzing Canadians about the importance of face-to-face connections, GenWell expects to improve the health and happiness of our culture and society.

CARP’s main mission, fighting ageism, fits squarely within GenWell’s mandate. We want all Canadians to see seniors as productive members of society, people whose lives and thoughts should be understood and embraced by all. In return, CARP’s elders should return that societal endorsement with a healthy respect towards those who are younger members of Canada’s culture and political system. It’s only through an open dialogue between all members of our society that we can build a culture that fights loneliness, anger and despair.

Building knowledge through science, the humanities and proper research, GenWell is working to improve the health and well-being of people, improve our healthcare system, increase social cohesion and inclusivity and drive our economy and communities forward.

GenWell’s Vision of Social Health

GenWell is a human connection movement dedicated towards improving Canada’s social health. For the organizers at GenWell, it’s vitally important for our culture to engage in a healthy discourse with all sections of our diverse and dynamic society. It is only through honest and respectful interaction that our culture will remain robust and in a constant state of improvement.

What is Social Health?

Social health is an aspect of overall well-being that comes from connection and relationships. It includes:

  1. i) deep meaningful connections with friends and family
  2. ii) casual interactions that we have with neighbours, coworkers, classmates

iii) daily opportunities we may have with strangers.

Combined, these give us a sense of belonging, inclusion and support, as well as feelings of being seen, valued, and understood.

GenWell is focused on shifting the conversation upstream and engaging Canadians in a message and action that can have a positive impact on mental and physical well-being.  Unlike mental and physical well-being, social health can not be done alone, and thus GenWell is focused on both individual education and empowerment and population-level activation.

GenWell states:

We exist to address the issues of social isolation, disconnection and loneliness through the power of human connection.
