The provincial government has launched a committee to respond to patient’s privacy and confidentiality expectations. The committee will work in concert with eHealth to come up with provisions that ensure such information will be safe and used in a proper manner. The privacy and protection of personal information will be paramount to ehealth’s success and goal to provide sound programs and services.
CARP applauds the eHealth initiative, recognizing the importance of improving health care performance, patient care, and fostering greater health awareness amongst patients. CARP looks for the Ontario government to ensure that the eHealth agenda receives adequate funding and staffing to ensure objectives are met. But e-health will remain in the realm of science fiction unless there is a significant buy in and participation by patients and their doctors.
