“We hope physicians will follow and start using the test,” Major said. “The patients are ahead of the physicians here.”

Blair Lancaster, of Breast Cancer Support Services, says it demonstrates a long-standing problem of research breakthroughs taking too long to get to patients.

“We have to be prepared to respond more quickly,” she said. “We don’t have systems in place for that.”
