Agreement grows that pension crisis needs public solution

The growing urgency has produced first steps toward public action. Organized labour has been sponsoring community round-table discussions across Canada.

This week an NDP-sponsored private member’s bill that would help protect employees and pensioners in the wake of a corporate collapse passed second reading in Parliament. Federal and provincial finance ministers and all provincial premiers will be meeting in the months ahead to develop recommendations. Organized labour will be following these discussions closely.

“Not only is it a viable proposal, it’s a much-needed proposal, one that should be acted on,” said Moist.
