Untangling Canada’s Income Supplement Programs

Untangling the various provincial programs and ensuring that they don’t conflict with those offered by the federal government is a crucial step in further eliminating poverty among seniors. After all, there’s little point in assisting seniors if the programs are difficult to access, understand, and may result in claw-backs of existing income.

At CARP, we will direct our annual federal pre-budget submission towards addressing the concerns of low-income seniors, both those who are officially below the poverty line and those who struggle just above it. Further, reducing the 4.4 percent of seniors living in poverty should be a top priority, and we will do our part to make the issue stick at all levels of government.
