CARP poll shows broad member support for assisted suicide

Quebec’s forum on end of life issues, which ends Friday — World Suicide Prevention Day, is a good thing, said Bruno Marchand of the provincial suicide prevention association.

“But if we put as much money into prevention, we’d really have an impact on suicide prevention,” Marchand said, noting that few have escaped the grim reality of suicide. “It’s your father, or brother or a friend of a friend.”

The CARP online poll was completed by more than 3,200 members of the organization. The majority of respondents were over 55 and roughly 60 per cent came from Ontario.

The survey is considered an accurate survey of CARP’s 80,000 [Editor’s Note: this was a print error, CARP has 350, 000 members] members to within two percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
