“It’s a very strong improvement over what the government introduced in their budget,” he told Postmedia News. “We hope other parties pick up on it. The NDP is way out ahead of the other parties at this point.”
He said that helping the sandwich generation with retrofit funding would be useful but that parties should not assume that seniors will be relying on families to carry the burden.
CARP also applauded Layton’s efforts to develop a national solution to help seniors.
“This is certainly one issue that will resonate with older voters and their families,” spokeswoman Susan Eng wrote in an emailed statement.
