About Peterborough CARP Chapter
Where the living is “easy”.
As with all other CARP chapters Peterborough Chapter consists of willing members who volunteer their time and talents, and who are willing to enhance our presence in the community. We advance CARP’s mission to keep our members advised on matters of Advocacy, Benefits, and Community events and activities. We encourage our members to become involved in issues of concern to all of us as we age, and to strengthen CARP’s influence at all levels of government.
Our chapter needs your help to form a Board, and committees with volunteers to organize our monthly meetings with dynamic speakers discussing topics of interest to our demographic group. Also some entertainers to inject a social tone at each meeting will help to bring members out. One man alone currently tries to line up speakers but we must get more willing volunteers to assist him.
We are able to contact those members who have provided an email address with information and we have now tried to do that. However the majority of our members do not have email addresses and we require a few volunteers to form a telephone committee to invite all of the others to our meetings. There is a need for somebody to contact the various local media to announce our meetings and subjects on the screen and on the printed page. Other volunteers are required with some marketing skills to find sponsors who would like to advertise to our members.
Most importantly we want to have a large crowd out at a meeting early this Fall where we can get a Secretary to record the proceedings, and a Treasurer to oversee finances if and when we get some money. Membership in our chapter comes FREE with your membership in CARP. When you join CARP or renew your membership, whether by mail or telephone, please make a note that you are a member of Chapter #16. Our chapter receives credit for each membership showing our number.
Our meetings are currently being held at Applewood Retirement Residence, 1500 Lansdowne Street West in Peterborough. Their management has kindly allowed the use of their facility by our CARP chapter for several years. The room is large, comfortable, and has projection facilities for Powerpoint or other visual presentations. There is a piano where you could grasp the opportunity to play and lead us all in a sing-song to get the juices flowing. The meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month providing CARP members an opportunity to meet and socialize with other CARP members and other similarly minded people. Come out, bring a friend, meet new people, have fun, and do good things for our community.
