After its 2026 budget failed to adequately address the growing needs of older British Columbians, CARP National and CARP BC Chapters have jointly called upon the provincial government for greater action in 2027 to support seniors’ health, financial security and the ability to age with independence.

 

Seniors across the province are facing rising living costs, lengthy waits for long-term care, barriers to aging at home, and gaps in access to recommended vaccines. Despite these growing pressures, the Province’s most recent budget offered little support and included decisions that could make life less affordable and more difficult, especially for older adults.

 

CARP’s pre-budget submission calls on the Province to take action in three key areas:

1. Restore and accelerate investments in long-term care capacity
2. Reverse the 2026 changes to the Property Tax Deferment Program for seniors
3. Publicly fund the “Big 5” vaccines recommended for older adults

 

With more than 20,000 members in British Columbia, CARP is urging the Province to listen to the needs of seniors, a growing demographic expected to double in numbers, and ensure that the 2027 budget supports seniors.
