On Monday, August 24, CARP Toronto members gathered at the ZoomerPlex for an afternoon focused on fire safety, community engagement and the future of the Toronto Chapter.

A highlight of the event was a home fire safety presentation from Gregory Moore, a fire and life safety educator at Toronto Fire 

Services. Gregory shared practical information on fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and steps older adults can take to help keep themselves, their homes, and their loved ones safe. The presentation went beyond the basics of smoke alarms and highlighted the importance of awareness and having a clear plan in place.  Following the presentation, attendees were also invited to take a closer look at a fire truck and speak with members of the fire service.

The event also provided an opportunity for Toronto CARP members to come together and discuss how members can become more involved locally. CARP Toronto is currently looking for volunteers interested in joining the Toronto Chapter Board. This is a great opportunity for members to be more involved with CARP, help organize local activities and events, and contribute to advocacy on issues affecting older Torontonians.
